Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Journey to Clare Valley
Travel through picturesque countryside into South Australia, arriving in the beautiful Clare Valley — one of Australia's most celebrated wine regions, renowned for its outstanding Riesling. Enjoy a relaxed afternoon before a welcome dinner and an overnight stay in this charming regional destination.
Day 2 – Barossa Valley & Journey North
This morning we explore the world-famous Barossa Valley, visiting a celebrated local winery for a hosted cellar door tasting of premium Barossa wines. We then continue north through the mid-north of South Australia, passing through historic towns and open farming landscapes as we make our way toward the Flinders Ranges.
Day 3 – Pichi Richi Railway & Hawker
Today's centrepiece is a journey aboard the historic Pichi Richi Railway, one of Australia's great heritage rail experiences. Departing Quorn, the train winds through the spectacular Pichi Richi Pass, a dramatic landscape of rocky gorges, native pines and outback scenery that once formed part of the famous Ghan railway line. This afternoon we continue to Hawker, the gateway to the Flinders Ranges, and settle in for our stay in the heart of outback South Australia.
Day 4 – Flinders Ranges — Blinman, Wilpena & Panoramic Views
Spend the day exploring the heart of the spectacular Flinders Ranges. We travel through ancient, folded mountain landscapes to the historic copper mining town of Blinman before continuing to Wilpena Pound — a natural amphitheatre of quartzite peaks enclosing a vast natural basin. From the Wilpena Panorama, the views across the ranges are truly breathtaking. We also visit Rawnsley Park and take in the dramatic colours and geological grandeur of one of Australia's most ancient landscapes.
Day 5 – Journey South to Coorong
We farewell the Flinders Ranges and travel south through the heart of South Australia. As the landscape changes from outback ranges to coastal wetlands, we arrive at the Coorong National Park — a narrow coastal lagoon system of extraordinary beauty, teeming with birdlife and steeped in Ngarrindjeri cultural significance. Enjoy scenic touring through this remarkable environment before continuing to our overnight accommodation.
Day 6 – Historic Robe & Limestone Coast
Today we visit the beautiful historic port town of Robe, perched on the edge of Guichen Bay and rich in maritime heritage. Robe's bluestone buildings, picturesque coastline and charming main street make it one of South Australia's most beloved destinations. Explore the town at your leisure, discover its Chinese migration history and enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery of the Limestone Coast before our final overnight stay.
Day 7 – Blue Lake, Mount Gambier & Journey Home
Before heading home, we visit the remarkable Blue Lake at Mount Gambier, a dramatic volcanic crater lake famous for its vivid seasonal colour changes. We also visit the Umpherston Sinkhole and explore the fascinating geological story of this unique city before beginning our journey back through western Victoria, arriving home with extraordinary memories of South Australia's diverse landscapes.
