Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Fly Melbourne to Perth
Today our Southern Coast adventure begins as we fly from Melbourne to Perth. On arrival, we head straight into the vibrant heart of the city, visiting the magnificent Kings Park and Botanic Garden with its panoramic views across the Swan River and CBD skyline, before exploring the rejuvenated Elizabeth Quay waterfront precinct. This evening, we enjoy a welcome dinner and settle into our comfortable Perth accommodation.
Day 2 – Rockingham Wildlife Cruise & Bunbury
After breakfast, we travel south to Rockingham for an unforgettable marine wildlife cruise. The waters around Rockingham are home to a resident pod of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, little penguins and a variety of seabirds — a wonderful wildlife experience to begin our journey south. We continue via the picturesque estuary town of Mandurah before arriving in Bunbury for our overnight stay.
Day 3 – Busselton Jetty & Margaret River
This morning we visit one of Western Australia's most iconic landmarks — the historic Busselton Jetty, stretching nearly two kilometres over the turquoise waters of Geographe Bay. We ride the Jetty Train to the end and descend to the fascinating Underwater Observatory, viewing the extraordinary coral and marine life that has colonised the jetty's timber pylons. This afternoon we continue south to the celebrated Margaret River region, renowned as one of Australia's premier wine and food destinations.
Day 4 – Margaret River Wine Experience
Today is dedicated to the very best of the Margaret River wine region. We visit a selection of the region's finest wineries for guided cellar door tastings, enjoy a leisurely gourmet winery lunch, and discover the artisan food producers — chocolatiers, cheese makers, olive growers and breweries — that make this region so special. A truly indulgent day in one of Australia's most beautiful wine country settings.
Day 5 – Cape Leeuwin & Pemberton
We travel south to Cape Leeuwin, the dramatic headland where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean — the most south-westerly point of the Australian mainland. We visit the historic Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse before journeying through the magnificent Boranup Karri Forest, where towering karri trees create a breathtaking cathedral-like canopy. This evening we arrive in the charming timber town of Pemberton, nestled in the heart of the karri forest.
Day 6 – Valley of the Giants & Albany
Today we experience one of Western Australia's most extraordinary natural attractions — the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk near Walpole, where a unique steel walkway takes you up into the canopy of ancient tingle trees, some of the largest living trees on earth. We continue through the picturesque town of Denmark, with its stunning river and coastline, before arriving in the historic southern port city of Albany.
Day 7 – Albany Heritage
We spend the full day exploring Albany's rich history and dramatic natural scenery. Our visit to the National Anzac Centre — built at the restored World War I embarkation point — is one of Australia's finest and most moving heritage experiences. We also visit the spectacular coastal formations of The Gap and Natural Bridge at Torndirrup National Park, where the full power of the Southern Ocean crashes against the ancient granite cliffs in a truly awe-inspiring spectacle.
Day 8 – Albany to Esperance
Today we travel east through the beautiful Great Southern region, passing through rolling farmland, coastal scrubland and the distinctive landscapes of Western Australia's south coast. It is a scenic day's journey through some of the state's most unspoiled country, and we arrive in Esperance — a charming seaside town renowned for having some of the most extraordinarily beautiful beaches in the world — in time for dinner.
Day 9 – Cape Le Grand National Park
The highlight of Esperance. We spend the day exploring the spectacular Cape Le Grand National Park, where brilliant white quartzite sand beaches meet turquoise waters of almost unbelievable clarity. Lucky Bay — consistently ranked among Australia's most beautiful beaches — is famous for its resident kangaroos, who can often be found relaxing on the sand at the water's edge. We enjoy a picnic lunch in the national park before a special farewell dinner this evening.
Day 10 – Return Home
After a final breakfast in Esperance, we transfer to Esperance Airport for our flight via Perth back to Melbourne, arriving home with wonderful memories of Western Australia's spectacular southern coastline, world-class wineries, ancient karri forests and breathtaking national parks.
